DID YOU KNOW that T-Shirts were first introduced as an undergarment? Issued to recruits at the end of the 19th century to the US Navy, then adopted by the Army, becoming 'Standard Issue' given to new recruits. As the tee became a familiar part of the working ensemble, labourers began to adopt the garment due to its lightweight fabric which suits hotter working conditions.

In the 50's, the T-Shirt was becoming a medium of self expression. For the first time, tees could be worn as a fashionable accessory or as a way to convey a message with the advancement of garment printing. We can still see evidence of this today as popular tees, considered vintage, are still widely sold; for instance 'I ♥ NY, Kiss Me Quick' not forgetting music tees that have become part of fashion statements; 'Frankie Says Relax' & probably the more famous Rolling Stones logo tee.

Today the Tee has since become a vehicle to drive brand logos and push seasonal colours. Used a layering piece to complete the look, tees can help promote a desirable look or trend. T-Shirts are also evolving now in to many different shapes for menswear, with longline, oversize and a boxy shape gives us confidence that the

T-Shirt is here to stay.
